Nikko: Nikkō Tōshō-gū

The last and largest shrine complex we got to explore on the tour was the Nikkō Tōshō-gū, located in the Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo. The complex is part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikkō, which is a designated UNESCO Heritage Site, and appropriately so. All the buildings in the complex were incredibly ornate, making them stand out from the surrounding nature. I could have spent hours admiring all the intricate details – it was almost overwhelming.
